Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic and reconstructive surgery addresses tissue loss, congenital differences and damage after injury, burns or cancer treatment, with attention to function and appearance. Aesthetic surgery aims to change selected aspects of appearance. MPGCARE coordinates specialist appointments and records with Medical Park and Liv Hospital in Türkiye. Suitability, diagnosis, the operative plan and medical care are determined by the hospital physicians.
The following conditions and procedures are discussion topics, not confirmation that every hospital provides every technique. The receiving center confirms the surgeon, clinical scope and available services. Some reconstructions require several stages. Clinical examination is central; blood tests, ECG, imaging or other investigations are selected according to the procedure and individual risks, rather than a compulsory package.
Face, nose, eyelid and ear procedures
| Condition or procedure | Reasons for seeking an assessment | Examination, selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Rhinoplasty / nasal-shape and breathing concerns | Nasal shape, asymmetry or breathing difficulty; report trauma and previous nasal surgery. | External and internal nasal examination, photographs with consent and selected ENT/airway assessment. Imaging is requested only for a specific indication. Functional correction and reshaping require an individual plan. |
| Blepharoplasty / excess eyelid skin | Upper/lower eyelid skin or contour concerns, sometimes visual interference. | Eyelid and eye-surface examination; review dry eyes, vision and prior eye surgery, with ophthalmology/visual-field testing when indicated. The surgeon distinguishes excess skin from true eyelid droop. |
| Face and neck lift / skin laxity | Facial or neck tissue laxity and changes in contour. | Examination of skin, underlying tissues and facial movement; review previous procedures and medical fitness. Technique, incisions and limitations are planned individually; scans are not routine. |
| Otoplasty / prominent or altered ears | Prominent ears or a shape difference, congenital or after injury. | Ear examination and review of symmetry, cartilage and any hearing-related concern; age-appropriate assessment when relevant. The method and scar plan are chosen by the surgeon. |
Breast and male breast procedures
| Condition or procedure | Reasons for seeking an assessment | Examination, selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Breast augmentation / volume concerns | A wish to increase or restore breast volume; report previous implants and pregnancy/breastfeeding plans. | Breast examination and imaging according to age, symptoms and risk. Discuss implant versus selected fat transfer, implant monitoring and future surgery; implants are not lifetime devices. |
| Breast lift (mastopexy) / breast ptosis | Breast droop or excess skin after weight change, pregnancy or aging. | Examination of skin, breast tissue and nipple position; indicated breast imaging. A lift and adding an implant are separate decisions, with different scars and risks. |
| Breast reduction / symptomatic large breasts | Large breasts with discomfort, skin irritation or activity limitations. | Examination and indicated breast imaging; discuss tissue removal, scars, nipple sensation and possible effects on breastfeeding. Laboratory/medical assessment is individualized. |
| Gynecomastia / enlarged male breast tissue | Persistent male breast enlargement, tenderness or asymmetry. A new lump needs assessment. | History of medicines and endocrine/other causes, examination and selected breast imaging or laboratory tests. Tissue removal, liposuction or a combination depends on the findings. |
Body contouring and fat transfer
| Condition or procedure | Reasons for seeking an assessment | Examination, selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Liposuction / localized fat deposits | Localized fat that affects contour; liposuction does not treat obesity. | Examination of fat distribution, skin elasticity and overall health. Selected preoperative tests and clot-risk assessment guide suitability, treatment extent and whether staging is safer. |
| Abdominoplasty / excess abdominal skin | Loose abdominal skin or abdominal-wall concerns after pregnancy or weight change. | Skin and abdominal-wall examination, with assessment for muscle separation or hernia and selected imaging if needed. Future pregnancy/weight plans and the scar pattern are discussed. |
| Arm lift / excess upper-arm skin | Loose upper-arm skin, often after substantial weight change. | Examination of skin, fat, arm function and scar placement; individualized medical assessment. Liposuction alone may not address excess skin. |
| Thigh lift / excess thigh skin | Thigh skin laxity or irritation after weight change. | Examination of skin/fat and wound-healing/clot risk; selected medical tests. Incisions, movement restrictions and staging are individualized. |
| Fat transfer (lipofilling) / selected volume defects | A contour or volume concern in an area suitable for fat grafting. | Assessment of donor and recipient areas, prior treatment and medical fitness. Fat collection and injection are surgical steps; retained volume varies and another procedure may be needed. |
Reconstructive conditions and procedures
| Condition or procedure | Reasons for seeking an assessment | Examination, selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Breast reconstruction after cancer surgery | A breast defect following mastectomy or selected breast-conserving treatment. | Review cancer surgery, pathology, radiation/systemic therapy and donor sites; selected imaging. Implant or tissue-flap reconstruction and timing are coordinated with the cancer team and may involve stages. |
| Hypertrophic scars | A thickened scar confined to the original wound, sometimes painful or restrictive. | Clinical assessment of scar maturity, skin and function. Topical measures, selected injections or revision are considered individually; a scar cannot be completely erased. |
| Keloid scars | Scar tissue growing beyond the original wound, sometimes with itching or pain. | Clinical assessment, prior treatment and recurrence history; biopsy only if the diagnosis is uncertain. Selected combined treatment may be needed, and recurrence remains possible. |
| Burn scars and contractures | Healed burns causing tightness, movement restriction or troublesome scars. Acute significant burns need urgent local care. | Assess skin, range of movement and tissue loss; rehabilitation input and selected tests. Scar release, grafts, flaps or staged reconstruction may be considered. |
| Cleft lip and cleft palate | A congenital lip/palate difference with possible feeding, speech, dental or hearing needs. | Age-appropriate assessment by a cleft team, with feeding, ENT/audiology, speech and dental review when indicated. Repair and follow-up are planned in stages. |
| Skin-cancer defects and reconstruction | A suspicious skin lesion or tissue defect after cancer removal. | Clinical review, appropriate biopsy/pathology and margin assessment; selected staging where relevant. Tumor removal and reconstruction must be coordinated so that cancer clearance guides the plan. |
| Traumatic soft-tissue or facial defects | Tissue loss, contour change or functional difficulty after an injury. Acute severe injuries require local emergency assessment. | Examine wounds, function and circulation; review operation records and selected X-ray/CT or other imaging. Closure, grafts, flaps or microsurgery depend on the defect. |
| Hand tendon, nerve or soft-tissue reconstruction | Loss of hand function after injury or selected congenital differences. | Detailed movement, sensation and circulation examination; selected X-rays, ultrasound/MRI or nerve studies according to the problem. Confirm the appropriate hand/microsurgery team and rehabilitation plan. |
Selected non-surgical aesthetic procedures
| Condition or procedure | Reasons for seeking an assessment | Examination, selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Botulinum toxin / selected dynamic facial lines | Expression-related lines; report previous injections and relevant muscle/nerve conditions. | Facial assessment and review of medicines, allergies and contraindications. It is a temporary treatment and does not replace every surgical correction. |
| Dermal fillers / selected volume or contour concerns | A contour or volume concern; disclose all previous filler products and treatment dates. | Examination of anatomy and prior treatment, with selected imaging when a complication or uncertain product is suspected. Product/site suitability and vascular complications must be discussed. |
How does the specialist assessment work?
Explain the functional improvement or change you want and what concerns you most. The surgeon reviews your history and examines the relevant area, discusses alternatives and limitations, and requests indicated tests. Photographs or an online discussion can support a preliminary opinion but do not replace examination and anesthesia assessment. Confirm the named surgeon, technique, facility and aftercare before deciding; availability of a technique does not establish that it suits you.
What information and tests should I prepare?
Provide previous operation reports, implant/product details if applicable, relevant pathology and images, current medicines and supplements, allergies and your medical history. Report diabetes, heart/lung disease, bleeding or clotting problems, sleep apnea, smoking/nicotine use and prior anesthesia difficulties. The team decides whether blood count, chemistry, ECG, pregnancy testing when relevant or specialist review is needed. Breast imaging depends on clinical indication, age and risk. Use the hospital’s secure record-submission channel.
Realistic results, scars and revisions
Discuss what can be improved, the expected scars and what the procedure cannot achieve. Healing, swelling and later aging, weight change or pregnancy affect the result. Exact symmetry, an identical result to a photograph, scar-free surgery or permanent perfection cannot be guaranteed. Early swelling can obscure the result; the surgeon explains when review is meaningful. Revision is a separate clinical decision with its own risks, timing and costs, and is not automatically included.
Important reminders before surgery
Follow the surgeon’s individual instructions on nicotine cessation, alcohol, nutrition, fasting and medicines. Disclose nicotine from cigarettes, vaping or other products because it can affect healing. Do not stop blood thinners or other prescribed treatment independently; agree any changes with the responsible clinicians. Report infection or new illness before surgery. Confirm consent, the planned areas, implant/material details, whether procedures should be staged and who will accompany you after discharge.
Important reminders for patients and accompanying family members
After anesthesia or sedation, follow the hospital’s supervision, driving and activity restrictions. An accompanying person can help with transport, medicine schedules and appointments, with your consent. Use only the prescribed medicines and follow the written plan for dressings, drains, support garments and activity. Do not remove drains, massage treated areas or use creams/devices unless the clinical team has instructed you. A garment or massage recommendation for one operation may not apply to another.
Wound care, movement and recovery
Obtain a schedule for wound checks, dressings, suture/drain removal and rehabilitation when needed. Confirm bathing, sleeping position, lifting, exercise and return-to-work instructions for your operation. Follow the prescribed movement and clot-prevention plan; do not assume either complete bed rest or immediate unrestricted exercise is appropriate. Recovery and the required stay vary by procedure and healing, and combining several operations may change the risks and aftercare needs.
When should I contact the clinical team urgently?
Increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, wound separation, unusual drainage or rapidly increasing swelling needs prompt clinical advice. Heavy bleeding, fainting, chest pain, sudden breathlessness or a painful swollen leg requires urgent local medical assessment. After an injection, sudden severe pain, pale/discolored skin, visual change or neurologic symptoms needs emergency assessment. Follow your procedure-specific warning plan and do not wait for a flight, a scheduled review or a reply from MPGCARE.
Breast implants and long-term follow-up
Ask about the implant type, monitoring, possible rupture, capsular contracture, future replacement/removal and rare implant-associated conditions. Keep the implant identification card and operation report. Implants are not lifetime devices. New persistent swelling, a breast lump or a change in shape requires medical assessment; ultrasound or MRI may be selected for an implant concern. Routine cancer screening continues according to your clinician’s advice and is distinct from implant monitoring.
Children and reconstructive care
Congenital differences and childhood reconstruction require an age-appropriate specialist team. Ask about feeding, hearing, speech, hand function or rehabilitation according to the condition. Surgery may be staged as the child grows, and coordination with pediatrics or other specialties may be necessary. Families should receive a clear written plan, consent information and emergency contacts. Confirm the receiving center’s age limits and services before arranging travel.
Follow-up, travel and care after returning home
Agree who reviews healing, who handles complications and which local clinician can provide aftercare. Obtain the discharge summary, prescriptions, wound-care plan, implant details when applicable and next review date. The surgeon determines when travel is appropriate; major surgery and long journeys can increase clot risk. Airline requirements and your clinical recovery may affect timing. Do not book departure around an assumed fixed recovery period or leave before required checks.
What should a written proposal include?
Request the hospital and surgeon, exact procedure/technique, anesthesia, selected tests, anticipated admission, implants/materials, medicines, dressings and garments. It should explain planned follow-up, aftercare duration, what is included or excluded, and how complications, extended stays, staged surgery or revision are handled. Ask what changes after examination could alter the plan or costs. Take time to decide and ask for clarification rather than feeling pressured to proceed.
Arrange a specialist consultation
Tell MPGCARE the procedure or functional concern you want to discuss, previous treatment and preferred consultation language. Our team helps organize records and appointments. Complimentary Sarp–Trabzon and airport–hospital transfers can be coordinated for patients, with route and timing confirmed in advance. A routine transfer does not replace medical transport when needed. The surgeon’s assessment remains the basis for deciding whether and how to proceed.
