Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging in Türkiye | MPGCARE
MPGCARE coordinates specialist assessment at suitable Medical Park and Liv Hospital partner centers in Türkiye. The receiving hospital, clinician and available services are confirmed individually. A clinical examination and review of previous records guide the plan; photographs or a remote inquiry do not establish a diagnosis or guarantee a procedure.
Radiology supports diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up by answering a specific clinical question. The referring clinician and radiologist choose the appropriate modality, body region and protocol. More scans are not automatically better; a scan finding must be interpreted together with symptoms, examination and laboratory results.
Conditions and clinical questions evaluated by imaging
The examples below describe possible assessment pathways. The clinician chooses investigations and care according to findings, alternatives, medical history and informed consent.
| Condition or concern | Assessment and treatment options | Planning and follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Brain and neurological disease | Selected MRI or CT for appropriate brain/nerve questions. | Sudden stroke symptoms require emergency care, not elective imaging abroad. |
| Spinal disease and nerve compression | Selected MRI, CT or radiographs according to symptoms. | Imaging findings do not always explain pain; clinical correlation matters. |
| Fractures, joint and soft-tissue injuries | Radiographs, ultrasound, CT or MRI selected by anatomy and injury. | Urgent trauma may need local stabilization. |
| Chest and lung disease | Chest radiograph or appropriate CT protocol. | Inflammation and tumors may require other tests or biopsy. |
| Abdominal and liver disease | Ultrasound, CT or MRI selected for organs and clinical question. | Contrast and preparation differ by protocol. |
| Kidney stones and urinary disease | Selected ultrasound or CT; other urinary imaging if indicated. | Kidney function and obstruction need clinical review. |
| Breast symptoms and suspicious findings | Diagnostic mammography, ultrasound and selected MRI. | Age, symptoms and risk guide testing; suspicious lesions may need biopsy. |
| Thyroid and superficial masses | Ultrasound and selected guided sampling by an appropriate service. | Imaging alone does not establish every tissue diagnosis. |
| Vascular narrowing or suspected thrombosis | Doppler, CT angiography or MR angiography as indicated. | A sudden swollen limb or chest pain can require urgent care. |
| Cancer staging and treatment response | Disease-specific CT/MRI or other appropriate imaging. | Compare prior images; PET/CT is a distinct nuclear medicine pathway. |
| Pelvic and reproductive-organ disease | Selected ultrasound or MRI with consent and an appropriate protocol. | Internal examinations are explained and consented separately. |
| Osteoporosis risk | DEXA bone-density assessment when indicated. | Interpret with fracture risk; it is not a whole-body disease screen. |
| Children’s imaging needs | Age-appropriate ultrasound, radiographs or advanced imaging. | Justify radiation and minimize exposure; sedation only when necessary. |
| Infection, abscess or postoperative complications | Selected imaging to locate a concern and guide care. | Drainage or intervention requires separate assessment and consent. |
Choosing MRI, CT, ultrasound and X-ray
MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves, ultrasound uses sound waves, while CT and radiographs use ionizing radiation. Each method has strengths and limitations; they are not interchangeable for every problem. The clinician chooses the region and protocol to answer the medical question. Routine whole-body scanning without a clinical indication is not automatically appropriate. Device specifications and specialist protocols must be confirmed with the hospital.
MRI: implants, metal and comfort
Inform the team about pacemakers, implants, surgical clips, metal injuries and previous operations; bring device information where available. Some devices require a specific compatibility review or protocol, while others may prevent scanning. Remove items according to instructions and use hearing protection. Claustrophobia, inability to lie still or pain should be discussed before booking. Sedation is a separate clinical decision with escort and discharge precautions, not an automatic inclusion.
CT and radiation considerations
CT can provide rapid detailed views for selected trauma, organ and vascular questions. The expected diagnostic benefit is weighed against radiation, particularly for children and pregnancy. Tell the team if pregnant or possibly pregnant before the examination. Body region, previous studies and dose-appropriate protocols are considered; no universal dose or risk-free claim applies. Repeat imaging should have a clinical reason, and prior images may avoid duplication.
Ultrasound, Doppler and intimate examinations
Ultrasound can assess organs and superficial structures; Doppler examines selected blood-flow questions. Preparation may involve fasting or a full bladder depending on the study, but not for every scan. Internal pelvic or other intimate examinations require an explanation, specific consent and appropriate privacy. Ultrasound has technical limitations from anatomy, gas and other factors; a non-diagnostic result may lead to another appropriate test.
Contrast agents, kidney function and medicines
Some CT/MRI studies use contrast and others do not. Agents and risk profiles differ. Disclose previous contrast reactions, allergies, kidney disease, diabetes, medicines, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Recent kidney tests or additional checks may be needed according to the planned agent and patient. Follow the hospital’s specific advice; do not stop medicines or interrupt breastfeeding on a generic assumption. Serious breathing/swelling symptoms after an injection require immediate medical attention.
Breast imaging and bone-density assessment
Breast symptoms and screening are different clinical pathways. Mammography, ultrasound and selected MRI are chosen according to age, findings and risk; one normal examination does not answer every concern. A suspicious lesion may require tissue sampling and a breast specialist. DEXA measures bone density at selected sites and is interpreted with fracture risk and clinical history; it does not replace other tests for pain, cancer or general health.
Preparation, children and the examination day
Bring the referral, prior images in an accessible format, reports and a medicine/device list. The radiology unit gives protocol-specific instructions on food, fluids, bowel preparation, contrast and sedation. Do not apply one fasting rule to every examination. Children’s studies use age-appropriate techniques and cooperation support; anesthesia, if required, needs separate assessment. Timing depends on protocol and workload, so same-day completion or reporting is not guaranteed.
Reports, second opinions and next steps
A radiologist interprets images and issues a report for the referring clinician. Ask how images/report will be delivered, the language, timing and whether comparison or a formal second opinion is included. Incidental findings, uncertainty or a suspicious lesion may require further assessment; imaging alone does not diagnose every condition. Image-guided biopsy, drainage and other interventional procedures have separate indications, risks and consent. PET/CT and radionuclide examinations are covered under Nuclear Medicine; this page concerns diagnostic radiology.
Preparing records, appointments and a written plan
Share current symptoms, their timeline, existing reports, a medicine list, allergies and relevant previous treatment. The specialist determines which tests and appointments are needed. Ask for a written scope distinguishing consultation, investigations, procedures, medicines and follow-up, with report timing and arrangements for complications. No universal duration or guaranteed outcome applies to every patient.
MPGCARE travel coordination and continuity of care
MPGCARE helps organize records, appointments and communication with the confirmed Medical Park or Liv Hospital partner center. Free Sarp–Trabzon transfer and airport–hospital transfer for patients arriving by air are arranged after confirming route, timing and accompanying persons. Medical fitness to travel, accommodation, extra visits and local follow-up must be clarified before departure.
