Inguinal Hernia Symptoms
Learn the symptoms of inguinal hernia, when urgent care is needed and how surgical treatment is...
General surgery assesses abdominal-wall, digestive, endocrine and breast conditions, including selected tumors that may require surgery. MPGCARE coordinates consultations and medical records at Medical Park and Liv Hospital in Türkiye. Hospital physicians establish the diagnosis, discuss alternatives and decide whether an operation is appropriate.
These tables describe common assessment pathways, not a compulsory test package. Tests depend on symptoms, examination and previous results. Organ transplantation has a separate specialist pathway and is covered in its own section.
| Condition | Symptoms and records to discuss | Selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Inguinal and abdominal-wall hernias | A groin/abdominal bulge or discomfort; sudden severe pain, vomiting or an irreducible painful swelling is urgent. | Examination; ultrasound/CT when the diagnosis or anatomy is unclear. Observation or repair depends on symptoms, anatomy and risks. |
| Gallstones and gallbladder inflammation | Upper abdominal pain, nausea; fever or jaundice needs prompt assessment. | Ultrasound and selected blood/liver tests; additional bile-duct imaging where indicated. Surgery or other treatment is individualized. |
| Appendicitis | Increasing abdominal pain, sometimes fever or vomiting; suspected acute appendicitis requires local urgent assessment. | Examination, selected blood/urine tests and ultrasound/CT according to the case. Emergency management is not delayed for international travel. |
| Diverticulitis and selected bowel complications | Abdominal pain, fever or altered bowel function; severe or worsening symptoms need assessment. | Clinical review and selected CT/laboratory tests. Complications or recurrent disease may require surgery; colon assessment is timed appropriately. |
| Hemorrhoids | Bleeding, discomfort or prolapse; rectal bleeding also has other causes. | Examination and anoscopy when appropriate; selected colon evaluation based on symptoms and risk. Conservative, office or surgical treatment is chosen individually. |
| Anal abscess and fistula | Perianal pain, swelling or discharge; fever or severe pain may indicate an acute abscess. | Examination; selected ultrasound/MRI for complex fistula anatomy. Drainage or surgery balances disease control with continence. |
| Condition | Symptoms and records to discuss | Selected tests and treatment approach |
|---|---|---|
| Breast lumps and selected breast cancer surgery | A breast lump, nipple/skin change or a confirmed diagnosis. | Clinical review, age/risk-appropriate imaging and indicated biopsy/pathology. Surgery is coordinated with the breast/oncology team. |
| Thyroid nodules and selected thyroid cancer surgery | A neck lump, compression symptoms or an abnormal ultrasound. | Ultrasound, thyroid-function tests and indicated needle biopsy. Not every nodule needs surgery; pathology and clinical risk guide the plan. |
| Gastrointestinal tumors requiring surgical assessment | Confirmed/suspected stomach or colorectal tumor, bleeding, obstruction or prior pathology. | Endoscopy/biopsy and selected staging images; specialist review of operability, nutrition and oncology sequencing. A stoma or additional treatment may be needed. |
Prepare a symptom timeline, previous operations and current medicines/allergies. Include dated ultrasound/CT/MRI images and DICOM files, endoscopy and pathology reports and relevant blood results. Mention blood thinners, diabetes, heart/lung disease, pregnancy possibility and previous anesthesia problems. Use the receiving hospital’s agreed secure channel.
No. The surgeon may recommend observation, medicines, an office procedure or an operation depending on symptoms, disease severity and risk. Ask what treatment is intended to improve, what happens without it, and which alternatives are suitable. An incidental finding alone does not determine the need for surgery.
The surgeon chooses a technique according to anatomy, disease, previous operations and risk. A minimally invasive or robotic approach is not appropriate or available for every case. It does not remove the possibility of complications or conversion to open surgery. Confirm the technique with the named center and ask about scars, admission and recovery.
A suspected mass may need imaging and tissue diagnosis. For a confirmed tumor, pathology, stage, organ function and nutritional status guide the surgical plan. Surgery may be one part of treatment alongside oncology or other specialists. Ask whether additional treatment, lymph-node assessment or a stoma may be needed; complete removal and recovery cannot be guaranteed.
Obtain written instructions for fasting, bowel preparation when needed, diabetes care and medicines. Do not stop blood thinners or other prescribed treatment independently. Report new fever/infection before surgery. Confirm consent, anesthesia, possible blood-product needs and how unexpected findings or changes in the planned procedure will be discussed.
Ask about expected monitoring, who can accompany the patient and what help is needed after discharge. Plan support with movement, medicines and appointments with the patient’s consent. Discuss eating, pain control, return to work and any rehabilitation needs. A proposed length of stay may change according to recovery.
Follow the prescribed wound/bathing, diet, movement and lifting plan. If a drain or stoma is needed, ask for practical training, supplies and a written removal/review plan before leaving. Increasing pain, redness, discharge, fever or persistent vomiting needs prompt advice. Do not remove devices or alter medicines independently.
Severe or worsening abdominal pain, a painful irreducible hernia with vomiting, major bleeding, collapse or rapidly worsening illness needs urgent assessment. After surgery, severe breathlessness, chest pain or concerning deterioration also needs emergency care. Do not delay emergency treatment for an overseas appointment or routine transfer.
Obtain the operation/discharge summary, pathology-review plan, prescriptions and warning signs. Agree who can assess wounds, remove sutures/devices when appropriate and review results locally. The treating team determines when travel, work, exercise and normal eating are suitable. Some problems may require return to the specialist center.
Request consultation, selected tests, the exact operation, anesthesia, anticipated admission, materials, medicines and follow-up. Clarify pathology, possible additional procedures, complications, extended stays and exclusions. The final scope and costs may change after assessment; ask for an updated written explanation before deciding.
MPGCARE helps organize records and confirm the responsible specialist and receiving hospital. Complimentary Sarp–Trabzon and airport–hospital transfers can be coordinated where appropriate. Routine transport does not replace an ambulance or medically supervised transfer; travel must follow the clinical team’s advice.
