Neurology
Neurology evaluates disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. Headache, weakness, numbness, seizures, movement changes and memory difficulties can have different causes. A neurological examination and the symptom timeline guide targeted investigation and a treatment plan suited to daily life.
MPGCARE coordinates specialist review at Medical Park and Liv Hospital in Türkiye. The hospital confirms the appropriate neurologist, investigations and available services. We support medical records, appointments, communication and travel. Children are directed to the relevant pediatric service; complex adult cases may need several specialties.
Neurological diseases and symptoms assessed
The following is an overview of consultation topics, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of any particular procedure. Some conditions require urgent local treatment rather than a planned overseas visit.
| Disease / condition | What is assessed | Care approach |
|---|---|---|
| Migraine | Recurring headache, nausea, sensitivity and possible aura. | Attack and prevention planning, trigger review and medication-overuse assessment. |
| Tension-type and other headaches | Pattern, examination and warning signs. | Cause-specific treatment; imaging only where clinically justified. |
| Epilepsy and seizures | Event history, witnesses and selected EEG/imaging. | Seizure classification, appropriate medication and a safety plan. |
| Stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) | Sudden neurological symptoms are time-critical. | Immediate emergency pathway; later prevention and rehabilitation planning. |
| Multiple sclerosis and demyelinating disease | Symptoms, examination, MRI and selected tests. | Diagnosis-specific treatment, relapse assessment and monitoring. |
| Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonism | Slowness, stiffness, tremor and non-motor symptoms. | Individual medication, rehabilitation and selected advanced-treatment review. |
| Essential tremor | Movement pattern, medicines and other possible causes. | Symptom control and functional support according to severity. |
| Dystonia and other movement disorders | Involuntary posture or movement. | Individual neurological treatment and selected specialist procedures. |
| Memory disorders and dementia | Cognition, daily function, medicines and potentially treatable causes. | Diagnosis, caregiver support and appropriate ongoing care. |
| Peripheral neuropathy | Numbness, pain or weakness from peripheral nerves. | Cause review, selected nerve tests and symptom management. |
| Nerve entrapment, including carpal tunnel syndrome | Distribution and severity of nerve symptoms. | Conservative treatment or surgical referral where indicated. |
| Myasthenia gravis | Fluctuating weakness may affect eyes, swallowing or breathing. | Neuromuscular assessment and treatment; breathing/swallowing deterioration is urgent. |
| ALS and other motor-neuron disorders | Progressive weakness requires specialist evaluation. | Multidisciplinary support for function, communication, swallowing and breathing. |
| Muscle diseases | Weakness pattern, blood tests and selected electrophysiology/genetics. | Cause-specific care and rehabilitation. |
| Ataxia and balance problems | Coordination and gait changes have diverse causes. | Targeted neurological/ENT assessment and fall-prevention support. |
| Restless legs and selected sleep-related neurological problems | Sleep pattern, medicines and relevant underlying causes. | Individual treatment and sleep-service collaboration. |
What happens in the first consultation?
Describe when symptoms began, how long episodes last, triggers and their effect on walking, work, sleep or memory. Bring imaging, EEG/EMG results and all medicines. A trusted witness can help describe seizures or cognitive changes. The examination evaluates functions such as strength, sensation, reflexes, coordination and language; the next tests follow the clinical question.
MRI, CT and EEG: what do they answer?
MRI or CT investigates selected structural questions; not every headache requires a scan. EEG records brain electrical activity and may help classify seizures, but a normal routine EEG does not by itself exclude epilepsy. Findings are interpreted with symptoms, not alone. Tell the clinic about implants, claustrophobia, pregnancy and relevant medicines before preparation is agreed.
EMG, nerve studies and further tests
Nerve-conduction testing and EMG assess selected nerve or muscle problems and may involve electrical stimulation or fine needles. Blood tests, lumbar puncture or genetic testing are only used for relevant questions. The specialist explains expected discomfort, benefits, risks and preparation. Do not stop prescribed medicines or blood thinners without instructions.
Headache and epilepsy management
A diary of headache or seizure events helps tailor treatment. Migraine care may combine attack treatment and prevention; frequent painkiller use can complicate headaches. Epilepsy treatment depends on seizure type, response, pregnancy plans and other factors. Discuss driving, work, sleep and medicine adherence. Do not suddenly stop antiseizure medicines; obtain a written seizure-response plan.
Parkinson’s, MS and long-term neurological care
These conditions require individual review of symptoms and function. Treatment may control symptoms or modify a relevant disease process, but outcomes vary. Rehabilitation, exercise appropriate to ability, and swallowing, speech or mood support may contribute. Selected advanced options need additional evaluation and hospital confirmation; no procedure is suitable for everyone or guarantees a cure.
Memory, neuropathy and muscle weakness
Memory complaints are assessed for their pattern and reversible contributors before assuming dementia. Caregiver observations and daily functioning matter. Numbness or weakness may require diabetes, vitamin, medicine and nerve/muscle investigation. Treatment should address the cause as well as symptoms. Some diagnoses require continued multidisciplinary support and home-care planning.
Which symptoms require emergency help?
Sudden facial droop, arm weakness, speech or vision change, new severe imbalance or a sudden worst headache require urgent local assessment. Suspected stroke needs immediate emergency help even if symptoms improve. A first seizure, a seizure lasting five minutes or more, repeated seizures without recovery or breathing difficulty also requires urgent help. In Türkiye call 112; do not wait for a flight or online reply.
What should relatives do during a seizure?
Protect the person from nearby hazards, cushion the head and time the event. Do not restrain movements or put anything in the mouth. After convulsions stop, place the person on their side if appropriate and remain with them; seek emergency help for the criteria above or uncertainty. Use prescribed rescue medication only according to the individual plan and training.
Follow-up, costs and second opinions
Send age, symptoms, diagnosis, images/reports, test results and current medicines through MPGCARE’s designated channel. The hospital reviews the suitable specialist and proposed investigations. Clarify visits, tests, medicines, procedures and rehabilitation in the estimate. Document review does not replace examination. Before leaving, obtain the summary, medicine plan, warning signs and arrangements with local clinicians.
Travel and patient coordination
Free Sarp–Trabzon transfer is offered for road arrivals and free airport–hospital transfer for air arrivals. Route, timing and accompanying-person arrangements are confirmed in advance. Travel suitability depends on clinical stability, recent events and assistance needs. Accommodation and appointments are planned with the patient’s needs and required follow-up in mind.
