Transplantation
Organ transplantation is a specialist treatment pathway for suitable patients with severe organ failure and selected other conditions. MPGCARE coordinates medical records and appointments with Medical Park and Liv Hospital in Türkiye. The named transplant center determines clinical eligibility, permitted pathways and the care plan.
This section covers organ transplantation only. Every organ and donor pathway requires separate confirmation for the receiving center. The examples below are not a fixed test package or a guarantee of access to transplantation.
Conditions considered for organ-transplant assessment
| Condition | Clinical situation and records | Selected investigations and care approach |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced chronic kidney disease / kidney failure | Advanced kidney disease or dialysis, with recent nephrology and dialysis records. | Kidney-function and overall-health review, blood-group/compatibility tests, infection screening and selected cardiovascular investigations. The transplant team determines recipient suitability. |
| Decompensated cirrhosis / advanced liver disease | Cirrhosis with complications such as fluid retention or encephalopathy, or specialist referral for severe liver disease. | Liver-function/severity assessment, imaging and selected infection/cardiopulmonary tests. Eligibility and priority depend on specialist and applicable allocation criteria. |
| Acute liver failure | Rapidly developing severe liver dysfunction with possible altered awareness. | Urgent local hospital and specialist assessment. This is an emergency pathway; routine international travel must not delay care. |
| Selected liver tumors within a transplant pathway | A confirmed liver tumor and existing hepatology/oncology findings. | Tumor-specific staging and liver assessment by the transplant multidisciplinary team. Only selected patients meet transplant criteria; a cancer diagnosis does not itself establish eligibility. |
| Selected severe diabetes / pancreas-transplant assessment | Specialist referral for severe diabetes-related problems, sometimes with kidney failure. | Diabetes, kidney, cardiovascular and compatibility assessment. Pancreas transplantation is a specialized option, not routine treatment for all diabetes. |
| Irreversible intestinal failure | Complex intestinal failure despite specialist nutritional and medical support. | Multidisciplinary nutrition, organ-function, infection and imaging review. Assessment requires a specifically confirmed intestinal-transplant program. |
How does the assessment begin?
Prepare specialist summaries, dated laboratory results, imaging/DICOM files, previous operations and current medicines/allergies. Kidney patients should include dialysis records; liver patients should include complication and treatment history. Mention infections and any previous transplant. The team decides which findings need review or repetition and whether additional specialties must assess risk.
Recipient and living-donor assessment are separate
A potential recipient and a potential living donor both need center-led assessment. Compatibility alone does not prove suitability. Donors need independent information about their own health and surgical risks, voluntary consent and a separate follow-up plan. The center confirms applicable legal and documentation requirements for international patients. MPGCARE does not supply organs or promise a donor, waiting-list access or a transplant date.
What should families ask before making travel plans?
Ask which organ program and responsible team will assess the case, what records are needed and what may prevent transplantation. Confirm whether a donor pathway is possible for your circumstances. Ask about alternatives, expected admission and local follow-up needs. The hospital must confirm the clinical scope; a general physician/hospital listing alone does not confirm transplant-program eligibility.
Important reminders before transplantation
Continue dialysis and other prescribed care unless the treating team changes it. Obtain written instructions for fasting, medicines, diabetes and blood-thinner management. Report fever or new infection promptly. Confirm recipient and donor consent, anesthesia, blood-product discussion and postoperative support. Do not arrange travel during acute deterioration without medical advice.
Patient and family care after the operation
Follow the prescribed wound, diet, movement and lifting plan. With consent, family members can help track medicines, appointments and symptoms. Recipient and donor recovery plans differ. Increasing pain, wound changes or persistent vomiting needs prompt advice; severe breathlessness, chest pain, collapse or major bleeding requires urgent local assessment.
Anti-rejection medicines and long-term monitoring
Recipients require prescribed anti-rejection treatment and ongoing monitoring. Take medicines exactly as directed and never stop them because you feel well. Agree laboratory/drug-level checks and who reviews results. Ask about medicine interactions, infection precautions, vaccinations and pregnancy planning. Fever or new illness needs prompt contact with the transplant team; rejection may be detected through monitoring before symptoms.
Follow-up for the living donor
Donor care remains important after discharge even when the recipient is recovering well. Obtain the donor’s own surgical summary, review dates and long-term monitoring advice. Ask who provides local follow-up, when work/activity/travel is appropriate and how to report problems. Consent and medical decisions remain the donor’s own.
Returning home and the written proposal
Agree a named local clinician who can provide the required tests and coordinate with the transplant center. Obtain separate recipient/donor summaries and prescriptions. Clarify assessment, surgery, admission, medicines, monitoring, exclusions and possible additional treatment or extended stays in writing. Transplantation is not a one-visit service; outcomes, graft survival and length of stay cannot be guaranteed.
Coordination and transfers
MPGCARE helps organize records and confirm the specialist center and written costs. Complimentary Sarp–Trabzon and airport–hospital transfers can be coordinated where appropriate. Routine transfers do not replace medically supervised transport or urgent care; travel must follow the treating team’s advice.
