Infectious Diseases
MPGCARE coordinates specialist assessment at suitable Medical Park and Liv Hospital partner centers in Türkiye. The receiving hospital, clinician and available services are confirmed individually. A clinical examination and review of previous records guide the plan; photographs or a remote inquiry do not establish a diagnosis or guarantee a procedure.
Infectious diseases specialists investigate illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, while distinguishing infection from non-infectious causes. This section focuses on adult assessment; children are directed to an appropriate pediatric service. Acutely unwell or potentially contagious patients need local assessment before travel.
Infections and concerns assessed
The examples below describe possible assessment pathways. The clinician chooses investigations and care according to findings, alternatives, medical history and informed consent.
| Condition or concern | Assessment and treatment options | Planning and follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Persistent or unexplained fever | History, examination and selected cultures/imaging; evaluate non-infectious causes too. | Testing follows clinical clues rather than a universal panel. |
| Hepatitis B | Serology, viral markers and liver assessment with relevant specialists. | Monitor or treat according to activity and liver risk; not everyone needs the same medicine. |
| Hepatitis C | Confirm current infection and assess liver health, medicines and treatment suitability. | Selected antiviral plan and response testing; reinfection remains possible. |
| HIV and related infections | Confidential testing, immune assessment and coordinated antiretroviral care. | Long-term monitoring and interaction review; no cure guarantee. |
| Tuberculosis | Distinguish active disease from latent infection; selected imaging and microbiology. | Infectiousness, resistance and public-health precautions guide care and travel. |
| Respiratory infections and pneumonia | Assess severity, imaging and appropriate pathogen tests. | Breathing difficulty or rapid deterioration requires urgent local care. |
| Recurrent or complicated urinary infections | Review symptoms, cultures and urinary anatomy with urology as needed. | Avoid treating an isolated test result without clinical indication. |
| Skin, wound and diabetic-foot infections | Examine extent, selected samples and vascular/bone involvement. | Antimicrobial care, drainage or surgery may require a multidisciplinary team. |
| Bone and joint infections | Selected imaging, cultures and orthopedic collaboration. | Treatment and source control may extend beyond a short visit. |
| Endocarditis and bloodstream infections | Urgent cultures, cardiac assessment and hospital care when indicated. | Potentially serious disease requires timely local stabilization. |
| Brucellosis and selected animal-associated infections | Exposure history, appropriate testing and specialist treatment. | Discuss unpasteurized foods, animal contact, complications and relapse. |
| Gastrointestinal and parasitic infections | Food/travel history, hydration and selected stool tests. | Therapy depends on organism and severity; dehydration needs prompt care. |
| Sexually transmitted infections | Consent-based confidential history and appropriate site-specific testing. | Treatment, partner advice and prevention depend on findings. |
| Infections in immunosuppressed patients | Review transplant, cancer therapies and immune status. | Fever may be an emergency; coordinate with the treating team. |
| Postoperative, device-related and resistant infections | Review operative records, implanted devices and susceptibility results. | Source control and targeted care; resistance is not managed by self-changing antibiotics. |
| Sepsis and suspected meningitis | Emergency assessment for organ dysfunction or neurological signs. | These are emergency pathways, not elective travel appointments. |
Consultation and microbiology
The specialist reviews symptoms, exposures, travel, animal contact, vaccination, operations and all antimicrobial courses. Bring dated cultures with susceptibility results, imaging and discharge reports. Blood, urine, sputum or other samples are selected according to the suspected site. Sampling before treatment can help when feasible, but urgent care must not be delayed to obtain records. A positive test can reflect colonization, past exposure or contamination and needs clinical interpretation.
Antibiotics and antimicrobial stewardship
Antibiotics do not treat every fever or viral infection. Choice, route and duration depend on organism, site, susceptibility, organ function, allergy, pregnancy and interactions. The plan may change after cultures. Do not use leftover drugs, share medicines or extend/stop a course independently; follow the prescriber’s specific instructions. Selected intravenous treatment requires monitoring and an appropriate service, not simply an appointment for an infusion.
Hepatitis and HIV: individual long-term plans
Viral markers are interpreted with the clinical picture; screening positivity alone does not describe activity or damage. Hepatitis care may require liver assessment and long-term surveillance, while HIV care includes a continuous antiretroviral plan and interaction monitoring. Treatment goals differ by infection. Medicines already prescribed should not be interrupted for travel. Confidentiality, laboratory availability, follow-up and prescription access need agreement with the receiving team.
Tuberculosis, contagiousness and travel
Active and latent tuberculosis have different implications. Symptoms, imaging and appropriate respiratory tests help assess active disease and infectiousness. Treatment is individualized, particularly if resistance is suspected, and requires adherence and public-health coordination. Suspected infectious pulmonary disease should be assessed locally before any commercial journey; travel must follow clinical and relevant public-health clearance. An overseas booking does not replace isolation precautions or required notifications.
Chronic, resistant and device-related infection
Repeated treatment failure may reflect an incorrect diagnosis, resistant organism, an undrained focus or infected material. Review of prior cultures, procedures and adherence is important. Drainage, debridement, device management or surgery may be necessary alongside medicines. Bone, joint, endocardial and complex wound disease often needs coordinated hospital care and a longer plan. No universal short course or guaranteed eradication applies to all cases.
Prevention, contacts and exposure advice
The team may review vaccination, hand hygiene, food/water safety, sexual health and contact management based on diagnosis and travel plans. Recent needle, sexual, animal-bite or other significant exposure can need time-sensitive local care; do not wait for an international appointment. Vaccination, post-exposure treatment and testing windows are selected individually. Tell the team if you are pregnant, immunosuppressed or planning contact with vulnerable people.
When urgent care is needed
Seek immediate local help for confusion, severe breathlessness, collapse, rapidly worsening illness, a stiff neck with serious headache/fever, or signs of severe dehydration. Fever during significant immunosuppression may require urgent hospital assessment even without dramatic symptoms. Do not wait for MPGCARE or arrange travel while unstable. The treating team decides whether hospital admission, isolation or intensive care is necessary.
Follow-up and return home
The written plan should cover medicine timing, monitoring tests, culture review, adverse effects, contact precautions and who will manage changes after return. Report severe allergic symptoms or rapid deterioration urgently; other concerning medicine effects should be discussed promptly with the prescriber. Infection-control requirements and medical fitness to travel must be confirmed before routine transfer; availability of a hospital bed or isolation room is not guaranteed in advance.
Preparing records, appointments and a written plan
Share current symptoms, their timeline, existing reports, a medicine list, allergies and relevant previous treatment. The specialist determines which tests and appointments are needed. Ask for a written scope distinguishing consultation, investigations, procedures, medicines and follow-up, with report timing and arrangements for complications. No universal duration or guaranteed outcome applies to every patient.
MPGCARE travel coordination and continuity of care
MPGCARE helps organize records, appointments and communication with the confirmed Medical Park or Liv Hospital partner center. Free Sarp–Trabzon transfer and airport–hospital transfer for patients arriving by air are arranged after confirming route, timing and accompanying persons. Medical fitness to travel, accommodation, extra visits and local follow-up must be clarified before departure.
