Thought to Be Hypertension, Turned Out to Be a Tumor
Complaining of abdominal pain, weakness, fatigue, and high blood pressure attacks, 21-year-old Georgian national Kristine Mikadze applied to our company MPGCARE and was referred to Medical Park Ordu Hospital, where it was discovered that she had a very rare tumor called paraganglioma. The young woman regained her health after a successful two-hour surgery. Kristine Mikadze, aged 21, had been suffering from abdominal pain, weakness, fatigue, and high blood pressure attacks. As her pain became unbearable and she was not satisfied with the explanations and treatment plan given in her country, she applied to Medical Park Ordu Hospital upon recommendation. Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mesut Şahin confirmed through examination and tests that the patient had a rare tumor, paraganglioma, located on the main abdominal artery. Subsequently, Urology Specialist Op. Dr. C. Cengiz Beyaz performed the surgery. After the two-hour successful operation, the patient regained her health and was discharged on the 4th day.
“Surgery was the only cure” Dr. Cengiz Beyaz said: “Paragangliomas are rare tumors originating from the sympathetic nervous system. Due to the secretion of hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline, patients experience hypertension attacks, palpitations, weakness, and fatigue. The only treatment is surgery, and after surgery, patients recover and no longer need blood pressure medication. In this case, the tumor was reached through a midline incision in the abdomen and removed without damaging the renal vein or the abdominal aorta. Although the patient had hypertension attacks before surgery, after removal of the tumor, her blood pressure returned to normal and her pain disappeared.”
“I’m glad I came to Türkiye” Four days after surgery, Kristine Mikadze said: “I had long been suffering from abdominal pain, weakness, and fatigue. In Georgia, I was given blood pressure medicine. As my complaints continued, I contacted MPGCARE Health Tourism Company. After reviewing my complaints and tests, the company referred me to Medical Park Ordu Hospital. With the constant support of company interpreters, all my tests were completed. I was told that surgery was necessary and that my left kidney might have to be removed during the operation, but the surgery was successful, and I was cured without losing my kidney. I am happy to have regained my health. I thank all the doctors, the hospital’s friendly staff, and MPGCARE for their support.”
